I've been thinking a lot lately about how much I've changed. The phases I've gone through...the fashion trends I've attempted. At one point in high school I was really punk/a creation of Hot Topic- I have no pictures from that error unfortunately. I swear all I wore was my D.A.R.E. t-shirt, black eyeshadow, chuck taylors and pyramid belts with a black hoodie everyday! I'm not ashamed of it. It's still apart of me to this day. Atleast the D.A.R.E. shirt is. Then I turned Cheerleader and GO BIG BLUE! I find this amazing because although I was ahead of the pack then I didn't feel like I belonged. I wasn't being my true self. I don't need to rock heels every day to feel sexy. I feel just as awesome in my combat boots. I'm no longer trying to match the girls in the music videos and impress guys who wear throwback jerseys and Harlem shake til their arms fall off. See Below: Now that I've moved to California, I have the opportunity to be exactly who I've always been without seeking anyone's approval. Just as the saying goes, the cream(cool ridiculously everyday awesome mortals)always rises to the top. What do I mean by that you ask? Well the individuals that are truly there for you and love the "real you" will be there long after you've ditched the barbie doll persona and the relaxed hair or the remi weave. So I guess I want to say thanks. Thank you to my readers, youtube viewers and friends who have been with me along the way! I really appreciate you! I can't say that enough as I type this entire blog in class. Thanks for loving me when I was a scared closeted indie kid! Apparently it was okay to use them at the Echo but not the Echoplex. I love sharing great movies and music whenever they come across my path. I saw Alan Ball's "Towelhead" on Saturday and absolutely loved the film. I know the film title is provocative but it's based on the actual book, "Towelhead" written by Alicia Erian
Alan Ball wrote the screenplay for "American Beauty" and directed HBO's "True Blood" along with "Six Feet Under." The film opens when 13-year-old Jasira's mother's boyfriend inappropriately volunteers to shave her legs against the wishes of her mother. After which, her mother wrongly sides with the boyfriend and sends her daughter to live with her father in Houston. The film covers a lot of issues regarding racism, sexism and I don't want to give too much away but it's a great movie.
The movie is said to be a dark comedy, but it kind of just comes across as dark. It does maintain some lighter elements as well.
Check out the trailer for yourself.

...I really should stop picking up weird things off the ground. Folks tell me all the time my hair is big but I always think otherwise. Maybe I'm too hard on my hair it looks much bigger than I envisioned. I don't know why I assume my hair is still in TWA mode. All in all I think I had a pretty awesome birthday. I had a get together at Birds of Hollywood with friends and somehow the night landed us at Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles. I'm grateful to make it to my first birthday here in Los Angeles, CA and I was able to celebrate it with wonderful people who care. Keep faith! Currently Listening to: ...I saw them in Concert on Friday with Washed Out and they were great!
