Twisted hair on the hottest day in the Valley. I can't believe the heat we're facing out here. I pride myself on having a high tolerance for heat, maybe because in the South, heat + humidity= "you better deal with it"

However, L.A. is showing me a new dry heat which keeps me from enjoying the outside world on most days.

I've officially made my year here in L.A.! Amazing! "so amazin'" I'm happy, glad, excited to be able to commit to the move. I know, I've had a lot of readers e-mail me regarding how to move to L.A. and believe me the best advice I dish out every time is to "believe you can." As corny as it may sound, "if you believe it, you can achieve it."

Sometimes, you have to let your destiny lead you and things will fall into place. Trust me, I always envisioned of living in L.A. but I never saw the move happening but a bit of encouragement goes a long way.

Summer is almost over. My first L.A. summer was definitely a heated one. So many great blessings to come.

I'd like to let my readers know that no matter what you're going through, there will be a  rainbow after the storm. A wise man once told me that "without struggle, there would be no success." I'd like to hold this saying close to my heart.

This summer, my book of choice has been "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent

Peale. (mind you the the book appears to be a bit dated in text) If you follow me on twitter, I'm sure you guys read me quoting Peale. "Nobody can be you as efficiently as YOU can." I really live by this quote. I repeat it daily. It helps to affirm my existence and keeps me on my own path to my goals.

Forever 21 Introducing Brian Lichtenberg Event

I had the marvelous opportunity to attend the Brian Lichtenberg for Forever 21 Event last week. I had such a grand time! Delicious edibles and bombastic fashion really brings a tear to my eye.

I'm so excited about this line. I've followed Brian Lichtenberg since I saw his fashions on M.I.A. and from the days I trolled karmaloop.com. He's a 28-year old L.A-based designer who specializes in magnificent bold patterns and laser cut fabrics. C'est Amore.

Never Thought You'd Leave in the Summer

I'm sure by now most of you guys have noticed. I have not posted on my blog for over 2 weeks. Truth be told I lost my grandmother about a week ago. I've never had to experience the pain of losing someone so close to me. I always counted that as such a big blessing. However blessings like those are only temporary. I lived with my grandmother for nearly all of my life and she is responsible for creating the driven southern woman I am today.

She moved from Louisiana at the age of 14 to Texas by herself in the 1930s and worked her way up into owning her own restaurant, becoming a licensed beautician, and nurse. All without graduating high school. Being that she did all this in the South during a time when rights weren't guaranteed to anyone of color, I feel this makes her my Civil Rights Hero and truly amazing in my eyes. I only wish I can be half the woman as my grandmother was.
